In 2016, the NSB Group has contributed significantly to the green shift by planning and implementing increased capacity on public transport between home and work, developing public transport hubs and adjacent residential and commercial buildings and delivering sustainable rail freight solutions. The NSB Groups is constantly striving to improve its energy efficiency. CO2 emissions from operations decreased by 80,343 tonnes (23%) from 2014 to 2016, mainly from the transition to renewable energy in the bus and real estate operations and a cleaner Nordic electricity mix. In 2016, NSB Group worked with GRI G4 Core reporting, which is now in place.

NSB Group's social responsibility is reflected in our main objectives:

NSB Group's main objective is to create value for our owner and society, in order to provide effective, accessible, safe and environmentally friendly transportation of people and goods.

NSB Group's main contribution to society is to facilitate the transportation of people and goods in a safe, environmentally sound and efficient manner, contributing to future growth.

Our main goal and our strategies reflect that NSB Group is strongly committed to social responsibility. We will strive every day to improve our contribution to customers, owner, employees, and community.

General principles

In our policy for social responsibility, we follow these basic principles:

  • Each company manager is responsible for ensuring that the company maintains social responsibility as part of the exercise of its business
  • Social responsibility must be incorporated into our strategic foundation and values
  • We support the principles of the UN Declaration of Human Rights and the ILO core conventions
  • We work actively against all forms of corruption
  • We will actively contribute to reduce the transport sector's environmental impact
  • We report annually on the status and development of social responsibility in an annual report

Guidelines

As part of efforts to ensure an open and effective management of the NSB Group, we have adopted guidelines for corporate governance and ethical guidelines. Our Code of Conduct states that we must follow applicable laws and regulations, actively work against all forms of corruption, respect human dignity and ensure equal treatment of employees.

In our ethical demands to suppliers we have set requirements for compliance with the UN's Human Rights and the ILO conventions on labor rights, discrimination, child labor and forced labor. In addition, it set standards for the environment and business ethics. NSB Group has developed its own environmental policy.

Monitoring and Measurement

The Board annually evaluates the NSB Group's strategic foundation and values. As part of risk management NSB Group analyzes twice a year the risk of failure to achieve objectives and measures to reduce risk are reviewed. Social responsibility is part of this evaluation.

An annual report on social responsibility is prepared yearly. Business areas and NSB Group’s status and key indicators of social responsibility are measured, and measures for improvements in key areas are described.

NSB Group reports the status of social responsibility to the Ministry of Transport and Communications as part of the annual § 10 Plan.
