More people are travelling by train and by bus, and the NSB Group delivered another solid financial result.

The NSB Group had in the first eight months of the year NOK 10.2 billion in revenue, compared to NOK 9.8 billion during the same period last year. This resulted in an operating profit of NOK 1.5 billion, compared to NOK 1.7 billion in 2015.

More people are travelling by bus and train

– It is gratifying to see that the strong growth in the number of travellers continues both for the bus- and passenger train operations. It is also nice to see that customer satisfaction is high amongst our bus and passenger train passengers, says Geir Isaksen CEO in NSB.

NSB passenger trains sold a total of 45.7 million journeys during the first eight months, compared to 44.1 million during the same period last year. Nettbuss sold 76 million journeys, compared to 68 million in 2015.

– It is particularly gratifying to see that our bus operations once again deliver a strengthened economic result in a market characterized by tough competition, adds Isaksen.

Lower pension costs in 2015 means that the result for the passenger train, freight and train maintenance is somewhat lower during the first eight months of the year compared to the same period in 2015. The real estate operations still delivers strong results, but slightly reduced sale of property compared to the same period in 2015 means that the result is slightly lower.

Pure Transport Company

As a result of the railway reform, the government will take over several of the operations, which are today owned by the NSB Group. ROM Eiendom AS and Mantena AS will be transferred to the new government owner in 2017.

The NSB Group has established two new companies in the preparation to separate additional business. Materiellselskapet AS will from the 15th October own all NSBs rolling stock. Entur AS will from the 15th October 2016 own and run all the sales and ticketing solutions. The newly established companies will be transferred to the new owner in 2017, the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

– NSB will now become a pure Nordic transport company within the business areas passenger train, bus, rail freight transport and tourism. This is a demanding restructuring for the NSB Group, but we are entering a new era with ambitions for continued growth in our business, says Isaksen.
